The client
FrieslandCampina produces and sells consumer products such as dairy drinks, infant nutrition, cheese, and desserts in a large number of European countries, in Asia, and in Africa through its own subsidiaries.
FrieslandCampina has locations in 34 countries with more than 21K employees. The products of FrieslandCampina reach more than 100 countries. The company's central office is located in Amersfoort, The Netherlands.
Revitalising
The old Magento webshop was created for employees who were interested in sports clothing. Later, it expanded to include various items for the member dairy farmers.
FrieslandCampina wished to bring new life into this tool because the webshop was no longer up to date. The new webshop was intended to contribute to the pride of the dairy farmer and to increase member engagement.
Because the current Magento shop was severely outdated both in terms of technology and design, it was recommended to transition to Adobe's e-commerce platform, Magento 2 webshop incorporating the latest technologies and a fresh new design. All to enhance the performance of the webshop.
By arranging hosting with Byte (where we are a Hypernode partner), the monthly costs for hosting the webshop are fixed, eliminating surprises later on. Additionally, with this hosting environment, we ensure that the loading time of the new webshop remains as low as possible.
By connecting the webshop and hosting to our monitoring and error reporting systems, we keep an eye on the webshop 24/7/365. In case of any hosting issues or coding problems, automatic notifications are received. With each notification, we proactively work to resolve the issue. Our goal is to ensure that involved users experience as little disruption as possible due to any issues that might occur.
Automation
To ensure that the employees responsible for the webshop can focus on filling the shop and promoting it, as many steps as possible were automated. For example:
Each account (dairy farmer/employee) is categorised into a group. Based on these groups, users can see (and therefore order) products within certain categories. Payment methods are also displayed based on these groups.
Orders are automatically forwarded to the drop-shipper for shipment. Inventory data is maintained in the Magento webshop. The responsible employee receives an automatic email notification when reordering is necessary.
A customised Single Sign-On (SSO) solution has been developed enabling dairy farmers to automatically login to Magento, based on a token (used in links on the intranet). If the dairy farmer does not yet have an account in Magento, one is automatically created for them.
There are more wishes on the list that will soon be fulfilled to further relieve the employees of FrieslandCampina.
Design, design, design!
The next phase of the project involved a complete redesign of the FrieslandCampina webshop. Based on a comprehensive brand identity document that was shared by FrieslandCampina, a new design in line with the brand identity was created. Small details such as the position of the logo in relation to the rest of the website are crucial and were incorporated into the new design. Although the use of colours and the permitted images were predetermined and therefore could not deviate, FrieslandCampina now has an independent and distinctive webshop. Allowing the e-commerce team to own the content.
Unique within guidelines
Our challenge was to find the freedom to develop something unique within the constraints of these strict guidelines. Through close collaboration with the client, we were able to refine and implement the design in a few short iterations. During implementation, a few additional points emerged that we needed to consider. Thanks to our agile way of working, we were able to address these points quickly and easily.
"The renewed webshop contributes to the pride of the dairy farmers and increases their engagement with FrieslandCampina."
